PURPOSE:To reduce the reading time and to improve the resolution by fitting suitable color filter so at least one linear solid-state image pickup element and placing plural linear solid-state image pickup elements in parallel onto the image forming plane. CONSTITUTION:A signal from a rotary encoder 9 coupled to a mechanical sub scanner 50 in a camera head is received and a pulse generated from a pickup pulse generator 17 is fed to a solid-state image pickup device 3 and an address counter 54 at the scanning start point of each scanning line. A read controller 56 of a signal processing circuit 21 reads R, G, B continuous signals in matched timing from frame memories 55R, 55G and 55B at the same time. Each color picture signal read from the frame memories is inputted respectively to buffer registers 57R, 57G and 57B and the outputs are outputted from output terminals 58R, 58G and 58B respectively as R, G, B continuous signals.
