PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity, to reduce residual potential, and to improve durability by forming a photosensitive layer contg. a specified azo compd. on a conductive substrate. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive layer formed on a conductive substrate incorporates at least one of azo compds. represented by formulae I and II in which A is alkyl or aryl; R1, R2 are each H, alkyl, alkoxy, or the like; Op is one of groups of formulae III-VI; Z is an aromatic hydrocarbon ring or hetero ring; Y is carbamoyl or sulfamoyl; R3 is H, alkyl, amino, carbamoyl, or the like; A' is aryl; and R4, R5 are each alkyl, aralkyl, or the like. The layer 4 also incorporates a carrier transfer material, and a carrier generating material using one of said azo compds. of formulae I and II. Said azo compd. has excellent photoconductivity, and it can be used for photosensitive bodies of various structures, such as a lamination type or function separation type, by applying said superior carrier generation ability and combining it with the carrier transfer material. The use of such an azo compd. reduces residual potential of the photosensitive body, enhances its sensitivity and its durability, and it can be used also for the long wavelength region of beams emitted from lasers, etc. |
