A yieldably-mounted street post, Fig. 1 (not shown) having a solid wooden or other core in a plastics or metal casing is detachably secured to a ground embedded base plate 4, by means of a shoe 10 secured to the lower end of the post, the shoe comprising a tapered spring steel plate 12 'having turned-over edges 14 which slidably grip the tapered edges of the plate 4. On impact with a colliding vehicle the edges 14 yield to disconnect the post from its base plate. The post may be recessed to carry reflectors and has at its upper end a vertical threaded socket receiving interchangeable traffic signs, Figs. 7-10 (not shown). |
