A fresh air duct (7) and a room air duct (8) open into a mixing chamber (32) under the grate (2). A fan (30) draws air out of this mixing chamber (32) and delivers it upwards into an offtake duct (34) and into a heat exchanger (24) situated above the combustion chamber (1). The hot air passes via outlet ducts (20) into one or more living rooms. Situated at the opening point of the fresh air and room air ducts (7, 8) is a V-shaped opening (27), in which a pivotable flap (26) is arranged. This flap (26) is driven by a motor (28) and controls the proportions of fresh air and room air supplied to the mixing chamber (32) depending upon thermostats (36, 38). As a result, an automatic control of the hot air output takes place. <IMAGE>
