Process and device for producing a sheet of synthetic foam in which a foamable, polymeric material is uniformly mixed with a physically acting blowing agent, heated, forced out of at least one nozzle and expanded, in which process the strand (3) of synthetic foam thus obtained, which is still plastically mouldable, is introduced centrally into the gap, which may be laterally delimited at both sides, between at least two take-off belts (1), sized by the take-off belts, cooled and solidified, the strand (3) of synthetic foam being expanded to a thickness smaller than the space between the take-off belts (1) and the ratio of the feed rate of the strand to the take-off rate of the take-off belts being adjusted to a value which substantially corresponds to the ratio of the distance between the take-off belts to the thickness of the strand. The outlet openings (6) of the nozzle (2) are disposed centrally in the space between the take-off belts (1) and open in a plane. <IMAGE>
