PURPOSE:To make forming of a minute gap between a magnetic recording medium and an auxiliary magnetic pole unnecessary by covering the surface of the part close to the magnetic recording medium of the auxiliary magnetic pole with a film face of a nonmagnetic body containing vitreous carbon material. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head consists of a main magnetic pole 13 of a ''Permalloy'' thin film supported by a support 12 formed of an alumina group ceramics which contacts vertically the surface of the magnetic recording medium 1 and provided with a film face 16 made of an aggregate of vitreous carbon material on the surface which is in contact with the medium 1 and an auxiliary electrode 15 formed of sintered manganese-zinc-ferrite having a film face 16 made of arcuate aggregate of vitreous carbon material on the face which is in contact with the medium 1 and provided with a coil 4 on the outer periphery. The vitreous carbon material is vitreous carbon material obtained by carbonizing a thermosetting resin, a vitreous carbon material obtained by carbonizing resin modified so as to cause thermosetting by copolymerization and cocondensation, etc. To be concrete, vitreous carbon materials of polyacrylonitrile group etc. are exemplified.
