In the case of a two-part air-filter housing for motor vehicle engines, which, owing to the confined installation conditions in the engine, can be swung upwards only by a small opening angle in order to change the filter element, a hinge (4) connection is provided, which when opening permits a displacement of the housing parts (1, 2) in a direction perpendicular to the housing parting plane. An annular spring (8) incorporated into the hinge (4) permits an automatic separation of the housing parts (1, 2) when the housing is opened. Inside the hinges (4) the displacement is permitted by means of elongated holes (7). <IMAGE>
