PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a memory and shorten the indexing time by dividing a sequential access table (SAT) to plural groups and distributing and storing related terms from a direct access table (DAT) and accessing this DAT. CONSTITUTION:The SAT is divided into three, and their addresses are designated by the upper DAT. The pointer from the DAT is distributed to divided SATs 1-3 through an SAT address register 44. The pointer is stored in this register 44, and contents of SATs 1-3 are read at a time and are sent to a comparator 7. The comparator 47 kana (Japanese syllabary) reading with data read out from SATs 1-3. Coincidence or disaccord is noticed only for a pertinent signal of the SAT where coincidence is detected in the preceding comparison, and thereafter Kana items are compared successively similarly, and this comparison is continued until a Kana item coincidence signal is generated.
