To reduce room echo in churches and similar spaces, the loudspeakers are installed in the pews or other seats in such a way that the main direction of sound radiation passes from the front part of the seat to the listener. An extremely short distance to the listener results from this arrangement; the volume of the built-in loudspeakers can now be kept substantially lower. Thus, the interfering effects of room echo, which reduce the clarity and intelligibility of the sound pattern, are no longer evident. The physical arrangement of the loudspeakers in a channel with slit-shaped sound outlet apertures causes the sound to be radiated over a wider area. The sound outlet openings on the loudspeaker base are closed in order to improve low-frequency response.
