The invention relates to a safety belt fastener for vehicles, in which the push button usually arranged next to the insertion funnel is moved away and arranged in a region which is ergonomically more favourable. This region can be reached more easily and is located more within the field of vision of the occupant. This measure allows a larger insertion funnel to be implemented, which improves the strapping-in operation by easier insertion of the fastener tongue, as well as a larger push-button area which is matched to the thumb and allows more rapid unfastening at a more suitable site. Due to the increased convenience of operation, a higher rate of belt use can be achieved.
