The intention was to design a vibration damper so that, using a piston rod of solid material, a simple, cost effective facility for the manual adjustment of a bypass duct is created for the low piston speed range between the two working chambers above and below the damping piston. For this purpose, the piston rod is coaxially enclosed by a control tube rotatable in the circumferential direction, it being possible to close and thereby throttle the bore of the bypass through partial covering to complete covering of the bore by withdrawing the control tube.
