The application relates to the use of a belt or plate conveyor by means of which a single-track row of articles can be generated on a part of the conveying stretch by oblique positioning of the conveying surface. The application further relates to a method and a conveyor for generating a single-track row of cylindrical articles, such as for example bottles, cans or the like. The initially horizontal conveying surface crosses over into a conveying track lying obliquely at an angle to the horizontal plane, so that the articles, because of their weight, slip down on the conveying surface in the region of cross-over and in doing so, depending on their position, slide against a first railing section arranged in the low point of the slope, which is moving more slowly relative to the moving conveying surface, or is stationary, some of the articles initially lying above the articles in contact with the railing section. <IMAGE>
