In cleaning appliances for textile machines, the fibre fly sucked up by the suction stream is retained by a screen in a collecting chamber arranged between the suction members of the cleaning appliance and a fan. To empty the collecting chamber and to clean the screen, some of the blowing-air stream of the fan is guided to the screen, flows through the screen in countercurrent to the suction-air stream and thereby conveys the fibre fly collected in the collecting chamber out of the collecting chamber by way of an emptying orifice. The collecting chamber together with the screen form a container having the emptying orifice. This container is arranged displaceably in a housing chamber of the cleaning appliance. A wall part arranged between the screen and suction line of the fan has an orifice which, in one position of the container in which its emptying orifice is closed, communicates with the suction line to the fan. In the other position of the container, in which the emptying orifice is open, however, this orifice is connected to the delivery line from the fan, with the result that the stream flows through the screen in countercurrent to the suction stream, the screen is cleaned and the collecting chamber is emptied.
