METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MANUFACTURING SUBMARINE OPTICAL CABLE

PURPOSE:To omit a pressure winding tape process and to improve availability and cable quality by running optical fiber units and split pieces through an assembly cage, and forming a pressure-tight layer right in front of an assembling die for steel wires. CONSTITUTION:A hollow fixed pipe 23 is inserted into the hollow shaft 21 of the assembly cage 20 through a bearing 22, and optical fiber units 2 and conductive split pieces 4a are run therein. A split piece assembling die 24 and the assembling die 14 for steel wires are provided atop the pipe 23. The split pieces 4a are assembled by the die 24 to form the pressure-tight layer right before plural tensile strength wires 6 are assembled by the die 14. Consequently, the need for a conventional taping process is eliminated and a tape is replaced without stopping to improve the availability and eliminate the evil influence of a stop upon the quality, manufacturing a cable of uniform quality.
