The alkylation, dealkylation, polymerization or isomerization of hydrocarbons is effected in the presence of the zeolitic molecular sieve described in Specification 980,502 which has a silica to alumina mol ratio of at least 3.0, a pore size of at least 5.6</>rA capable of adsorbing benzene and having at least 10% of the aluminium ions not associated with cations. The alkylation of a C4-C6 isoparaffin with a C2-C6 olefin or a benzene with a C2-C15 olefin is effected at 20-300 DEG C. and 0-1000 p.s.i.g. Dealkylation of alkyl aromatics is carried out at 400-600 DEG C., 50-1000 p.s.i.g. with a WHSV of 0.5-5 and a hydrogen to hydrocarbon mol ratio of 3-20. Polymerization of C2-C8 olefins to low molecular weight products, e.g. useful as gasolines, can be carried out at 0-300 DEG C. and 0-10,000 p.s.i.g. with a WHSV of 0.01-10. Isomerization of paraffins is effected at 250-425 DEG C., 100-1,000 p.s.i.g. a WHSV of 1-10 and a hydrogen to hydrocarbon mol ratio of 0.3-10. A mixture of pentanes and hexanes can be isomerized.ALSO:The alkylation of a substituted benzene, e.g. chlorobenzene or phenol, is effected in the presence of the zeolitic molecular sieve described in Specification 980,502 which has a silica to alumina mol ratio of at least 3.0 and a pore size of at least 5.6 </>rA capable of adsorbing benzene and having at least 10% of the aluminium ions not associated with cations. Alkylation is effected with a C2-C15 olefin at 20-300 DEG C. and 0-1000 p.s.i.g. In an example, phenol is alkylated with propylene to give a mixture of 1,2,4- and 1,3,5-diisopropylphenols. |
