Imidazoles of formula(I) and their isomers and salts are new, In (1), R1 and R2 are independently Ph, substd. Ph, pyridyl, or 1-oxydo- pyridyl; A is lower alkylene, lower alkylidene, lower alkenylidene, or cycloalkylidene; R3 is carboxyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkanoyloxy-substd. lower alkoxycarbonyl or carbamoyl; with the proviso that (i) at least one of R1 and R2 is other than ph when A is CH2 or CHMe, R3 is COOEt, and (ii) at least one of R1 and R2 is other than ph, p-methoxyphenyl and pchlorophenyl when A is CHMe and R3 is COOH. I are prepd. by the dehydrogenation of II. I are useful as topical antiinflammatory agents.
