To prevent variation of stress and strain in the frame of carding engine altering the separation of carding rollers or cylinders, at least two of the rollers are mounted in bearings 15 oppositely disposed on beams 10, 11, the beams being supported at their ends so as to permit pivotal movement relative to their support means at each of their ends about horizontal transverse axes. As shown beams 10, 11 are pivoted on pins mounted on U-shaped supports 13, 14. In a further form support 14 is removed, the free end of the beams joined by a web and the web supported centrally by a fulcrum joint. In another form the beams are mounted in bearings for limited rotation about their own longitudinal axes. Some of the carding rollers may be mounted on a subframe pivoted to the main supporting frame or to its supports. Rigid wheel members are mounted on the beams concentric with the main cylinder to provide locating means for the elements associated with the periphery of the cylinder.</p> |
