PURPOSE:To produce hard sodium carbonate pellet convenient for handling, by reacting sodium carbonate pellet with water at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:Pellets of sodium carbonate conditioned to 35-100 deg.C are weighed by a weighing device. Water is added to the sodium carbonate pellets at a ratio to give sodium carbonate pellet having an ignition loss of 1-14%, and is dispersed uniformly in the sodium carbonate pellets. The added water forms a hydrate by contacting with the surface of the sodium carbonate pellet. The hydrate is transferred to the drier, and the water other than the hydrated water is removed with the drying air to obtain the objective product. When the hydrated product is free of unhydrated water, the drying process can be omitted. If the temperature of the sodium carbonate pellet is <35 deg.C, the sufficiently high hardness cannot be attained, and when it exceeds 100 deg.C, the reactor is complicated and the operation becomes difficult because of the boiling of water.
