PURPOSE:To increase the performance of a lead storage battery by increasing the amount of electrolyte held in the separator by making at least one of the horizontal and the vertical lengths of the positive plate smaller than that of the negative plate. CONSTITUTION:The surface area of a positive plate 2 is less than that of a negative plate 1 in order to prevent it from touching a separator 3. Accordingly the sepatator 3 is free from any pressure and can hold a greater amount of electrolyte. Since a negative plate 1 has a larger surface area than the positive plate 2, oxygen gas developing from the positive plate 2 during overcharge is effectively absorbed by the negative plate 1. Furthermore the current density of the negative plate 1 is decreased thereby accelerating its gas absorption. As a result, it is possible to improve the internal reaction efficiency of a storage battery and to increase its performance. |
