PURPOSE:To reduce the cutting amount of a honeycomb structure with simple steps, by curving the honeycomb structure heated and plasticized, in parts by means of plastic deformation, and then by subjecting the structure to elastic deformation after cooling so that the structure is returned to its flat plate-like form and is cut. CONSTITUTION:A honeycomb structure taken out from a furnace 11 is pressed between concave and convex dies 12, 13 to be curved, that is the honeycomb structure is plastically deformed into a substantially and partially cylindrical shape. After cooling the honeycomb structure is taken out from the dies 12, 13, which is an intermediate workpiece 10a having a stable curvature. Then, the honeycomb structure is elastically deformed on a base 14 having a flat-like stationary surface, and is returned into its original flat shape. The honeycomb structure is stuck to the base 14 by a binding agent 15. Then, the exposed surface of the intermediate workpiece 10a stuck onto the base plate 14 is incliningly cut into a symmetrical shape to obtain an intermediate workpiece 10b as indicated at 17. Further, when the fixation by the bonding agent is released after cutting process, the honeycomb structure is returned into due to its resiliency and has a final honeycomb structure 10 having curved surfaces in both surfaces thereof. Thus, a honeycomb structure which is a framework structure may be formed and fabricated with a less cutting amount. |
