1,190,038. Whiskers of refractory oxides. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT. 29 Sept., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 44494/67. Heading C1A. Whiskers of refractory oxides are made in a process in which a metal source, which may be a metal, alloy or refractory oxide, is oxidized at a high temperature by the reduction of an oxide in its proximity in a reducing atmosphere of hydrogen or hydrocarbon in the presence of potassium chloride and traces of iodine or sodium chloride and traces of iodine. The oxidation of aluminium to form alumina whiskers is described and the process is said to be suitable for the production of beryllia or chromia whiskers. |
