PURPOSE:To measure at high accuracy tension of a sheet or band material, such as a tape in an optical and a non-contacting manner, by irradiating a light band onto the surface of a specimen and measuring surface roughness basing upon a point of intersection of the light band and the specimen surface. CONSTITUTION:A lighting source 22 turns on a light source 20 to transmit a ray of light through a fibrous flux 21 a pencil of parallel lights is formed with a lens 22 and irradiation in a semicircular pattern 23 is effected irradiated images of semicircular bright area by the light and a dark area on the other side are created on the surface of a tape making a sharp border line between bright and dark areas. By this border line undulations on the surface of the tape 22 is detected to a surface profile. The border line is enlarged by a lens 25 to be detected by a light-receiving element 29 through a multi-fiber unit 11 and it is amplified 30 and integrated 31 and applied to a projection counting circuit 33 as an input. From an output of the circuit 33, the tension is obtained through a tension converting circuit 34. |
