PURPOSE:To lower the temperature of metal of a heat transfer surface, with which fluid to be heated contacts, and consequently prevent the fluid to be heated from being thermally decomposed and deteriorated, thereby elongate the lifetime of the metal by a method wherein the difference between the temperature before and after the heat transfer surface is developed by means of a thermoelectric conversion element. CONSTITUTION:A thermoelectric conversion elements 3 are interposed between high temperature fluid passages 1 and the passages 2 for fluid to be heated. Almost all the heat of high temperature fluid is transmitted through the thermoelectric conversion elements 3 to fluid to be heated and a part of said heat is converted into electricity by means of the thermoelectric conversion elements 3 and recovered as electric power. Concretely, because the temperature of metal 13 of a low temperature side heat transfer surface can be lowered down to the value close to the temperature of the fluid to be heated due to the interposition of the thermoelectric conversion element between the metal 12 of a high temperature side heat transfer surface and the metal 13 of the low temperature side heat transfer surface, the difference A between the temperature of metal 13 and a temperature of metal with no thermoelectric conversion element is recovered as electric power.
