PURPOSE:To enable the accurate display of an image by removing a ghost echo, by providing a ghost pulse detecting circuit and a dummy echo forming circuit for forming a dummy echo similar to a ghost echo. CONSTITUTION:A probe 10 is set so as to be directed to a living body 12 and a transmission pulse is applied to the probe 10 from a transmitter receiver 16 while an ultrasonic pulse 100 is transmitted toward a region 14 to be excamined from the probe 10. In this case, echos successivey generated on the way of the propagation of the ultrasonic pulse 100 through the region 14 to be examined are received by the probe 10 and each of the echos is converted to an electric signal which is, in turn, inputted to the transmitter receiver 16. A echo with definite amplitude or more forming the ghost pulse contained in the output signal S1 of the transmitter receiver 16 and the propagation time thereof are detected by a ghost pulse detecting circuit 18 while a dummy echo S2 similar to a ghost echo is formed by a dummy echo forming circuit 20. These echos are inputted to a subtractor circuit 22 to remove the ghost echo. |
