PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of exhaust gas color by increasing the swirling degree of gas during a given period of time by providing a device to open the supply valve of compressed air leading to a nozzle port during the high-load low-speed period and also during the quick acceleration period and also the nozzle port through which air to accelerate swirl flow is jetted. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle port 6 through which compressed air from a compressed air source 5 is jetted is provided to the valve seat 4 of an air suction valve 3, and a solenoid valve 8 is provided to a pipeline 7 leading from the source 5 to a cylinder head 1. The pipeline 7 is connected to the nozzle port 6 through a flow path 9 above the cylinder head 1 and an annular groove 10 provided around the valve seat 4. The nozzle port 6 is set in the direction of increasing the intensity of swirl S to be formed in the recessed combustion chamber 12 of compressed air jetted from the port 6. The solenoid valve 8 is controlled to be opened during the high-load and low-speed period and the quick acceleration period by a computer 16 using turning speed signals 13, load signals 14 and quick acceleration signals 15 as input signals. |
