OPTICAL FIBER FOR DETECTING OIL OR THE LIKE AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To improve detection sensitivity by forming a thick oil detection part at a proper lengthwise place of the clad of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Part of the clad 2 of the optical fiber 1 at the proper lengthwise position is made thin and the oil detection part 3 is formed suitably for oil detection. The core 4 of the optical fiber 1 is made of quartz or a quartz glass system, the clad 2 is formed of silicone resin to a >=50mum thickness, and the thickness of the oil detection part 3 is made thinner than that and preferably <=10mum.
