PURPOSE:To always enable exact printing operation by checking whether it is suitable in the dot pattern structure for the high-speed printing mode when a character pattern for registration is registered from an external system. CONSTITUTION:When a character pattern for registration is fed from an external system 11 in the registering operation mode, a printing pattern checking circuit 17 is used to check whether the dot pattern structure thereof is suitable for the high-speed printing mode or not. According to the result, when the dot pattern structure is not suitable, namely, when adjacent dot data exist, one dot is deleted from the adjacent dot data so that a character pattern for registration suitable for the high-speed printing mode is always stored into an RAM18 for registration. Then, the character pattern for registration is sent to a driving circuit 20 from the RAM18 for registration to perform a printing operation. Thus, an exact printing operation is always possible even in the printing in the high-speed printing mode.
