PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound in high yield, by the vaporphase reaction of methyl alcohol with hydrogen fluoride at a specific temperature, using a catalyst comprising aluminum fluoride or a catalyst obtained by forming a mixture of aluminum fluoride and a carrier or by supporting aluminum fluoride on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A fluoromethane is produced by the vapor-phase reaction of methyl alcohol with hydrogen fluoride at 100-500 deg.C, especially 150-350 deg.C, using a catalyst comprising aluminum fluoride or obtained by forming a mixture of aluminum fluoride and a carrier (preferably activated carbon) or supporting aluminum fluoride on a carrier. The aluminum fluoride is preferably the one obtained by the fluorination of an aluminum compound. |
