PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer which is freed from clouding during formation of a membrane and is excellent in adhesion to bases, heat resistance, and solvent resistance, by polycondensing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid(derivative) with a specified aromatic diamine and an aminophenol. CONSTITUTION:A mixture (B) is obtained by mixing (a) an aromatic diamine of formula I (wherein R1-4 are each H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy, Cl, or Br, R5-6 are each H, CH3, C2H5, C3H7, trifluoromethyl or trichloromethyl), {e.g., 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane} with (b) an aminophenol of formula II[wherein X is a 2-10C aliphatic group which may contain an ether bond, p- or m-phenylene, naphthylene or a group of formula III (wherein Y is a bond of -O-, -SO2-, formula IV, -S-, formula V, or -CH2-)] at a molar ratio, a/b, of 5/5-9/1. 90-130mol% (A) aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its reactive acid derivative (e.g., terephthaloyl dichloride) is polycondensed with 100mol% component B.
