PURPOSE:To manufacture external parts for a watch with superior corrosion resistance by successively subjecting the pretreated surface of stainless steel to gold striking in a bath acidified with hydrochloric acid, Sn-Co alloy plating, gold striking in a bath acidified with hydrochloric acid and finish gold plating. CONSTITUTION:The surface of stainless steel uses as the material of a watchband, etc. is pretreated and subjected to gold striking in a bath acidified with hydrochloric acid. By the striking, the selective dissolution of the surface of the steel is prevented, and the corrosion resistance is improved. The adhesion of the resulting gold layer to the steel is maintained. The steel is then plated with an Sn-Co alloy to about 1-5mum thickness so that narrow gaps and tiny holes in external parts such as a watchband are well convered. Gold striking in a bath acidified with hydrochloric acid and finish gold plating are further carried out.
