PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copper inhibiting the formation of an alloy phase, reducing the stripping of a formed alloy phase and inhibiting reduction in the electric conductivity by adding a specified amount of Al as sol. Al. CONSTITUTION:This copper strenthened with dispersed alumina for a resistance welding electrode is obtd. by adding 0.2-0.4wt% Al as sol. Al. The preferred amount of alumina contained as an essential component is 0.1-0.7% (expressed in terms of Al). About 0.05-0.7% Sn may be added to improve the characteristics furthermore. When resistance welding is carried out using the copper strengthened with dispersed alumina, the growth of an alloy phase is inhibited, so the number of striking (lifetime) before the next dressing is increased, and the copper is industrially useful.
