PURPOSE:To use an optical element for an optical modulator or a device or the like displaying fine pictures with high resolution by forming the optical element by a monomolecular film constituted of organic compound molecules having a hydrophobic part and a hydropholic part, a monomolecular layer accumulating film or heating elements heating the monomolecular layer accumulating film. CONSTITUTION:One kind or more is selected from organic compounds of higher fatty acids, cyanine coloring matters, azo coloring matters, phosphatides, and long-chain dialkyl ammonium as the film forming components. The proper thickness of the monomolecular film or the monomolecular layer accumulating layer 3 is 30Angstrom -300mum and especially 3,000 deg.C-30mum is preferable. Glass, metal such as aluminium, plastic, or ceramics are used as a substrate 1. Light transmitting glass or plastic having high pressure resistance is favorably used as a protecting substrate 4, and especially a colorless/thin color material is preferable. The heating element 2 generates heat under various formats such as dot matrix-like, dot line-like, line-like and an island-like format to heat the monomolecular film or the monomolecular layer accumulating film on the basis of heat transmission. |
