PURPOSE:To ensure compatibility with an existing device in view of media, by a method wherein an upper-end margin can be selected, and the leading end of a medium is automatically protruded while setting the upper-end margin to the minimum value by a specific command. CONSTITUTION:The size (a) of the upper-end margin measured from the upper end of a medium to the first printing line is set by dip switches 6. When loading of the medium is commanded by a main body device 1, a printer momentarily positions the medium to the minimum value of the upper-end margin. In response to a command for making an existing model effective (a writing command, a line-feeding command or the like) from the device, the medium is fed until the upper-end margin reaches a set point set by the dip switches 6, and then the command is executed. |
