PURPOSE:To prevent the collapse of projecting lines of a slab and to improve the yield thereof by rolling the slab while restricting its sheet width by an universal mill and reforming its side ends by a two-high edging mill. CONSTITUTION:In a process of intermediate and finish rolling a slab heated in a heating furnace 1, many projecting lines extending in the rolling directions are formed in the width direction in at least one of the upper and lower surfaces of the rolling material by using a group of tandem mills. The group of said mills is constituted of an universal mill 3, consisting of horizontal rolls 3A and vertical rolls 3B and a two-high edging mill 4. In this way, the collapse of said projecting lines is prevented, and the yield of material is improved. |
