PURPOSE:To control the flow rate of cooling water and the amt. of a mold parting material to be coated and to obtain easily and exactly a casting ingot having high quality by measuring and estimating the quantity of the extracted heat in a casting mold during casting and knowing the solidification thickness of the casting ingot. CONSTITUTION:The temps. at >=2 points on the hollow channel side and bore side in the central radial direction of a rotary ring 11 are measured by providing >=2 holes 23a, 23b for insertion of thermocouples to the wheel 11 from the side face on the bottom side thereof and inserting respectively thermocouples 24a, 24b therein. The quantity Q of heat extracted through the casting mold per unit area of the casting ingot passing near the measuring part is determined. The solidification thickness t1 of the casting ingot from the wheel 11 side is determined from the value Q. The operating valves of coolers 17a, 17b, 17c and a secondary cooler 21 are adjusted according to the determined value of Q or t1 to control the flow rate of cooling water. The operating valves of a high pressure washer 22 and a mold parting material coater 18a are adjusted to remove the residual mold parting material ane to control the amt. of the mold parting material to be coated. |
