PURPOSE:To prepare a corresponding omega-halocarboxylic acid from an alkyl or alkenyl halide, by using a novel fungus belonging to the genus Candida guilliermondii. CONSTITUTION:A fungus such as Candida guilliermondii KSM-B-24 (FERM-P 7309) belonging to the genus Candida guilliermondii, capable of converting an alkyl or alkenyl halide into a corresponding omega-halocarboxylic acid is cultivated by the use of an alkyl or alkenyl halide as a reaction substrate at 28-35 deg.C at 6.5-8pH under aerobic condition for 3-5days, and the corresponding omega-halocarboxylic acid is collected from the culture solution.
