Closed electric arc furnace (1) for consumable electrodes (2) with a coolable crucible (7) with a crucible flange (8) and a furnace upper part (15) which can be set gas-tightly on the crucible flange. A number of elastic contact elements (25,26) are provided for the transmission of the melting current from the furnace upper part (15) to the crucible flange (8). For the purpose of a centring of the furnace upper part and the crucible and also a self-cleaning of the contact surfaces, the contact surface of the crucible edge is inclined to the crucible axis A-A at an angle different from 90 degrees. Furthermore, the direction of motion of the contact elements (25,26) is likewise at an angle to the crucible axis A-A. <IMAGE>
