Vacuum switching tubes are intended to be arranged at the shortest possible distance from one another, especially in medium-voltage switching apparatuses. To this end, not only is it necessary to conform to specified flashover distances between live parts of different polarity, but it is also necessary to absorb considerable mechanical forces between the live parts. An embodiment which is improved with respect to this object is obtained by the housing being composed of two mutually coaxial insulating material parts (9, 10) which taper towards the outer connections (5, 6), the mutually facing ends (11, 12) of the two insulating material parts being connected to one another in a vacuum-tight manner. The invention can be used advantageously for medium-voltage switching apparatuses. <IMAGE>
