Fuel injection system for mixture-compressing, applied ignition internal combustion engines with continuous fuel injection into the intake system, in which an air flow sensor and a randomly actuatable output control element are arranged in series and the air flow sensor is moved against a return force according to the amount of air flowing through it and in so doing adjusts a control piston, designed as a movable part, of a fuel distributor, arranged in the fuel feed line, for the metering of a quantity of fuel proportional to the quantity of air, which quantity of fuel, in the load range of the internal combustion engine, is injected into one injection nozzle for each intake pipe. In addition the fuel injection system has an idling control device. In order to improve the control of the fuel/air mixture in terms of the fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions and the engine speed when the internal combustion engine is idling, the fuel injection system comprises devices by means of which the fuel is fed through the injection nozzles when the internal combustion engine is idling below a certain operating temperature of the said internal combustion engine and the fuel is fed through an electromagnetic idling injection nozzle when the internal combustion engine is idling above the certain operating temperature, which idling injection nozzle injects the fuel into a central chamber connected by feed ducts to the intake pipes.
