Circuit arrangement for current flow detection

In technical facilities, it is frequently required to detect the current flow of a flowing direct and/or alternating current. If optocouplers are used in the detection circuit, the detectable range of values of the amplitudes of the flowing current is restricted. The range of values can be slightly increased by connecting appropriate components to the optocouplers, which, as a rule, is associated with the disadvantage that the power loss increases in the detection circuit. To avoid an increased power consumption and to achieve a wide detectable range of values, at least one optocoupler in the detection circuit is arranged with self-regulating parallel current branch. The output signal of the optocoupler is converted into a digital signal which is supplied to an evaluating circuit.
