In a device for heating systems, there is connected in the flue gas exhaust pipe 14 a heat exchanger 18 in which flue gases and injected water jets come directly into contact. By means of this water injection, a substantial portion of the thermal energy of the flue gases is removed via the water, as is at the same time SO2 entrained by them. The quantity of heat removed can be used to heat up the air of a warm air heating system or the water of a hot water heating system, or to heat up a flow of service water, or can be utilised in another way. <IMAGE>
