Means for the immunological detection of an entire class of microorganisms in clinical samples. The detection is accomplished by reaction of the clinical sample with a class-specific immunological reagent. This reagent is an antiserum either monoclonal or polyclonal in nature, and the detection is based upon reaction of the antiserum with an antigenic determinant which is shared among all members of the detectable class of microorganisms. The presence of the resulting immunological reaction product (e.g. the antigen-antibody complex) may be detected by well-known immunological detection-systems. |
