PURPOSE:To enable the production of briquette keeping the desired quality even under the unstable feeding rate of the kneaded raw material, by detecting the amount of the kneaded raw material in the hopper chute, controlling the speed of revolution of the forming roll, and carrying out the compression molding of the briquette keeping the amount of the kneaded raw material in the chute to a constant level. CONSTITUTION:The stock coal to be formed is kneaded with a binder by the kneader 1, and the obtained kneaded raw material is supplied to the double-roll forming machine 3 via the hopper chute 2. The level of the raw material in the chute 2 is controlled manually within a range between L-2 and L-3, and the speed of revolution of the forming roll is set to the maximum level, i.e. to SP-1. The operation is changed from manual to automatic, and the speed of revolution is reduced to SP-4. The roll speed is lowered to SP-5 when the level switch L-2 is in the state of OFF for 20sec, and the speed is increased to SP-4 when the switch L-2 is ON. The level of the raw material in the chute 2 is controlled so as to keep the switch L-2 ON and L-3 OFF.
