NEW MATERIAL:A methylaminopyridine derivative expressed by formula I (the substitution position of ethyl group is the 4- or 6-position). EXAMPLE:4-Ethyl-2-methylaminopyridine. USE:A synthetic intermediate useful for medicines, and agricultural chemicals, etc. and capable of preparing specific thiocarbamate derivatives, e.g. o-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-napthyl N-(4-ethyl-2-pyridyl)-N-methylthiocarbamate useful as an active constituent in herbicides controlling weeds in paddy fields, e.g. barnyard grass, smallflower umbrella plant and monochoria, etc. PREPARATION:A halopyridine derivative expressed by formula II (X is Cl or Br) is reacted with an aqueous solution of methylamine in a molar amount of 2-10 times of that of the halopyridine derivative at 100-200 deg.C for 1-24hr to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I .
