PURPOSE:To obtain Ni2P of high purity efficiently and inexpensively by reducing nickel pyrophosphate with H2 in the presence of a compd. selected from Na salt of phosphoric acid and NaOH, etc., and washing the reaction product with water or mineral acid. CONSTITUTION:At least one compd. selected from Na salts or K salts of phosphoric acid (e.g. Na pyrophosphate, Na primary phosphate. etc.), NaOH or KOH to nickel pyrophosphate, and mixed. The mixture is packed in a reaction tube and is reduced with H2, then, the reaction product is washed with water or mineral acid (e.g. aq. HNO3) to obtain the target Ni2P. The amt. of the compd. contg. Na or K to be added to Ni2P is preferably 1-10wt% as expressed in terms of Na or K.
