<p>1. A steering column shaft comprising two coaxial tubes (20, 22) having portions of flattened section (24, 26) which are fitted one inside the other, the largest dimension of the inner tube (24) being greater than the smallest dimension of the outer tube (26) so that rotation of the two tubes is ensured, and a resilient damping sleeve (28) interposed between the two portions of flattened section, characterized in that the inner and outer tubes have generally oval cross sections, the cross section of the inner tube (24) has two flat surfaces (45) between two curved portions, whilst the ross section of the outer tube (26) has two opposed recesses (47) each having convex surface opposite one of the flat surfaces of the inner tube, and the sleeve fills the entire space between the tubes whilst being capable of axial displacement relative to each of them.</p> |
