PURPOSE:To unorient magnetic particles in a magnetic layer effectively and lower modulation by coating a magnetic paint on a base film, running it in a moving magnetic field having components parallel to the face of the base film and moves at a fixed speed in the reverse direction to the base film, and heating and drying it. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic paint 2 is coated on the base film 1 by a photogravure roll rotor 3 to form a magnetic recording layer. An unorienting device 6 that unorient a magnetic particles in the unconsolidated magnetic recording layer is provided with many magnets 6b on the peripheral face of a roller 6a, and generates a moving magnetic field having horizontal components parallel to the face of the base film 1 which is oblique to the direction of running of the base film 1 and the situation is reversed at each specified length in the direction of running and moves at a fixed speed in the direction reverse to the direction of running of the base film 1. After the unorienting process, the coated base film is dried by a usual method and made to a product through a calender process.
