The invention relates to a process for producing a flat-bottomed bag in form-fill-seal machines in which a web of packaging material is unwound from a supply roll, adhesive is applied in a predetermined pattern and the web is provided with incisions and cut off at a specific length; the bag blank thus produced is placed round a forming mandrel, gusseted and adhesively bonded. The invention also relates to a flat-bottomed bag produced according to the process. The aim of the invention is to achieve an increase in output and to reduce the amount of packaging material required. The object is to reduce the number of operations for bag production and to reduce the number of bag regions with multilayer configuration. This is achieved in that the web of packaging material is supplied in a width of twice the bag height plus the bag bottom width and the bag blank is cut off inclined at an angle alpha to the direction of travel of the web of packaging material. This bag blank is placed centrally against the end face of a forming mandrel and folded around the latter in such a manner that a bag having a smooth bottom and inclined adhesive seams and bottom flaps laid against the two lateral surfaces results.
