PURPOSE:To retard by-production of CO2 and to produce H2 and CO with high rate of conversion by cracking methanol catalytically at a specified temp. in the presence of catalyst consisting primarily of Cu, Zn, and V having high activity and high heat resistance, etc. CONSTITUTION:Precipitate is obtd. by adding aq. soln. of precipitant (e.g. Na2 CO3) to aq. soln. contg. specified proportion of Cu salt [e.g. CU(NO3)2], Zn salt [e.g. Zn(NO3)2], and V salt (e.g. ammonium vanadate). The precipitate is filtered, washed, dried, calcined, and then crushed to adjust the particle size; thus, catalyst contg. 5-60wt% Cu, 5-60wt% Zn, and 0.5-5wt% V is prepd. Then, methanol is cracked catalytically in the presence of obtd. catalyst at 150-400 deg.C to obtain target synthetic gas comprising H2 and CO.
