1,121,909. Tubular heat exchangers. CKD PRAHA, OBOROVY PODNIK. 10 Nov., 1965, No. 47653/65. Heading F4S. In a tubular heat exchanger, either or both of two fluids in heat exchange with one another through the tube walls, is a gas, and heat transfer is improved by introducing a liquid into the gas to form therewith a foaming emulsion passing through or over the tubes. The liquid is subsequently withdrawn from the emulsion in a separator 9 which may be in the outlet header of the heat exchanger or externally of the heat exchanger. The withdrawn liquid is recirculated to the gas inlet zone of the heat exchanger or fresh liquid may be provided. A gas cooler is shown in which an emulsion of the gas to be cooled, and a foaming liquid, e.g. water, flows through the tubes 2 over which flows a coolant which itself may also be a gasliquid emulsion (Figs. 2 and 3). The foaming liquid is introduced into the gas from a reservoir 15, control valve 16 and a pipe 14, at a point just above a grill 6 through which the gas to be contacted by the liquid is introduced through a duct 5 and connection 4.
